Why it matters

A different way to hear a choir. Kansas City has extraordinary choral musicians and ensembles. Astra Ensemble adds something different to that landscape: a professional, conductorless chamber choir built around the idea that singers can take collective responsibility for the music—and that audiences can be brought closer to the people making it.

Contributions are what make the concert experience possible: the venues, the staging and lighting that turn a sanctuary into a concert hall, the instruments, and the pay-what-you-want admission that keeps a first concert from being a financial decision.
